Rodent Control in Issaquah, WA

Issaquah sits in a bowl of forested mountains, and most neighborhoods back onto a slope or a creek. That means rodents never have far to travel. When the rain returns and the scratching starts in the ceiling, we find how they are getting in, seal it, and clear out the ones already inside.

Most people call us after they have heard something: a patter in the ceiling at night, or a scratching inside a wall. That is the right time to call. This page explains how the shape of Issaquah decides where rodents get in, so you know what we will be looking at when we arrive.

Three mountains, one valley

Rats and Mice Coming Down Off Cougar, Squak and Tiger Mountain

Cougar, Squak and Tiger are large blocks of second-growth forest, and Issaquah is built right up to their edges. Deer mice and roof rats live in that cover year round. When the fall rain starts and food gets scarce, the ones closest to the houses move into crawl spaces, attics and garages. What they find depends on where in the bowl you live.

Valley Floor

Older homes and mid-century ramblers on crawl spaces, with original vents and framing that has seen decades of rain. Damp soil near Issaquah Creek keeps crawl spaces attractive, so the vents and the foundation get checked first.

Lower Slopes

Larger lots and homes on the lower slopes of Squak and Cougar Mountains. The uphill wall sits close to the soil and the native growth behind it, and deck ledgers, roof returns and utility lines on that side are where we look.

Issaquah Highlands and similar newer builds

The Highlands

Daylight basements, tall rooflines and tight lot lines against open forest. Each new phase of grading nearby pushes mice toward the finished streets, and the houses are newer than they look at the gaps.

A newer house is not a sealed house

Why a Few-Year-Old Home in the Highlands Still Gets Mice

New construction looks tight, but small gaps get left behind, and nearby grading pushes mice out of the ground they were living in. The entry is usually small and usually findable. These are the spots we check first on a newer home:

  • The seal along the bottom of the garage door
  • Where gas and cable lines enter the house
  • Dryer and bathroom vent penetrations
  • Roof-to-wall joints left over from construction
  • HOA bark and shrub beds piled against the foundation

How we work here

We Start on the Side of the House That Faces the Trees

The woods will always hold rodents, so the goal is a house that is not worth entering. On the first visit we walk the uphill and tree-facing side before anything else, then the foundation, roofline, deck ledgers and utility lines, and the crawl space and garage.

We seal every gap a quarter inch and up with materials sized to each opening, set locked, tamper-resistant stations outside, and trap inside the house. Then we come back to check and clear them and confirm the seal is holding. Someone is out within 48 hours, with a text about 30 minutes before the truck arrives.

What You Can Do Before We Arrive

Cut back branches so nothing touches the roof, keep bark and shrub beds a little away from the foundation, and bring pet food and bird seed inside at night. Write down where and when you hear the noise. If you find droppings, do not sweep or vacuum them. The Washington State Department of Health explains how to clean up without stirring up dust, since deer mice carry hantavirus.

What Customers Say About Our Rodent Control

"We were in need of immediate local service, since I woke up hearing scratching in my wall. I knew it wasn't good. I am super thankful for the care and concern that was given to me by the owner (who's amazing by the way), very knowledgeable, honest and very fair price. So much so that I dropped Orkin and signed up with these guys due to the low price I got quoted. When the tech showed up, he put me at ease, very knowledgeable young man, and answered all my questions and concerns. By that same night one of the traps that was laid down had caught the little bugger in my wall. I'm thankful for the quick reply and how quickly someone came out to help us. They even came back to retrieve the critter. I appreciate honesty, it's hard to come by these days. So thank you!"

"I was having a problem with rats and mice. I called so many places. I live in Lake Stevens. Pure Guard worked with me. The price is low. They set me up quickly. Would highly recommend! Thank you."

"Brian stopped by to let us know about his eco-friendly pest control services, and we are happy to know we are supporting an eco- and family friendly small business. He is super knowledgeable and uses products that are safe for our pets and kids, and applies them so they won't interfere with our honey bees. We are also going to have chickens in the near future, so we are happy that they (and we) will be protected from rats too. We are fine with bugs being outside where they belong, but very glad we don't have to worry about them being inside!"

Questions, answered

Issaquah Rodent Control Questions

Can You Keep Rodents Out of a House Backing Onto Cougar, Squak or Tiger Mountain?

Yes, but it takes sealing, not just bait. The forest will always have rodents, so the goal is making the house impossible to enter. We close every opening a quarter inch and larger on the foundation, roofline and utility lines, then use exterior stations to reduce pressure and interior traps for anything already inside. Return visits confirm the seal holds.

Our Issaquah Highlands Home Is Only a Few Years Old. Why Do We Have Mice?

New homes often have small gaps from construction: around the garage door seal, where gas and cable lines enter, at dryer vents and at roof-to-wall joints. Grading on nearby land also pushes mice out of their old cover. A newer house is usually quick to seal once the gaps are found, and we show you each one we close.

Is It Rats or Mice in My Issaquah Attic?

The sound usually tells you. Rats are heavier, with thumping and running, and their droppings are about half an inch long. Mice scratch and scamper and leave droppings about the size of a grain of rice. We confirm which one on the first visit, because the plan for each is different.

How Quickly Can Someone Come Out to Issaquah?

Someone is out within 48 hours, and you get a text about 30 minutes before the truck arrives. Issaquah is about 55 minutes from our base in Lake Stevens. If you can tell us where you hear the noise and when, we plan the visit around it.

Do You Use Poison Inside Issaquah Homes?

Inside the house we trap rather than bait, so you are not left with an animal that dies inside a wall. Outside, any bait goes in locked, tamper-resistant stations, and we walk you through where each one goes before we set it.

How Much Does Rodent Control Cost in Issaquah?

It depends mostly on how many ways in the house has and how much sealing it needs, so we quote after we have looked at the roofline, the uphill side, the crawl space and the garage. You have the number before any work starts.
