Cockroaches at a glance

What You Need to Know About Pest Control for Cockroaches.

Most indoor cockroach problems in Washington are German cockroaches, and they almost never go away on their own. They breed fast, hide near food and water, and scatter when sprayed, so bug bombs often make it worse. Cockroach pest control that works puts bait and a growth regulator right where they live, then follows up to confirm. Oriental cockroaches come in from outside, so that fix is moisture and sealing.

What we treat

What you're
actually dealing with.

Identification matters more than treatment. The same product on the wrong species can scatter a colony and double the problem. Here is what we typically find on calls in the Lake Stevens, Lynnwood, and Edmonds area.

German Cockroaches

These are the small, light brown ones, about half an inch long, with two dark stripes just behind the head. They live indoors near warmth, moisture and food, and they spread between apartments through shared walls and plumbing. A female carries her egg case until it is nearly ready to hatch, which is why they build up so quickly and why one treatment rarely finishes the job.

Oriental Cockroaches

These are bigger, around an inch, dark and shiny, and slower than German cockroaches. People here usually call them water bugs. They like cool, damp places like crawl spaces, basements, floor drains and the gap under a porch, and they mostly wander in from outside. That makes them a moisture and entry-point problem more than a kitchen problem, and we treat them that way.

How we work

Our process
for cockroaches.

Every visit runs the same way: a real walk-through, a written report after every service, and warranty re-treatment at no charge, within 48 hours, if the pests come back between visits.

01

Find Where They Live

This is the part of a cockroach exterminator visit that matters most. We check the spots they hide in: behind and under the fridge and stove, under the sinks, the cabinet hinges and corners, and the gaps where pipes come through the wall. Knowing which species it is and where it is concentrated decides everything that comes next.

02

Bait and Treat the Hiding Spots

This is the heart of our cockroach pest control service. For German cockroaches we place bait and an insect growth regulator in the cracks and crevices they live in, not across your counters. The bait gets carried back and shared, and the growth regulator stops the young ones from growing up to breed. For oriental cockroaches we treat the damp areas and the perimeter they are coming in from.

03

Follow Up and Close the Gaps

We come back to check the activity and re-treat wherever it is still hanging on, because eggs that were already laid hatch after the first visit. We also point out the gaps around plumbing and the moisture problems that keep drawing them in, so the fix lasts.

Why call us instead of DIY

Sprays and bug bombs kill the roaches that wander into the mist and push the rest deeper into the walls, sometimes into the next unit. German cockroaches reproduce fast enough that a few survivors restart the population within weeks. What a cockroach exterminator brings is bait and a growth regulator placed in the right cracks, which brings the numbers down, and a follow-up visit that confirms they stayed down.

Are Cockroaches Common in Washington State?

Yes, though not the way they are in the South. Our cool climate keeps them mostly indoors, so the German cockroach is the one people here deal with, in kitchens, apartments and restaurants. The oriental cockroach, the big dark water bug, turns up in damp crawl spaces and basements. Seeing either one inside is worth taking seriously, because neither leaves on its own.

How Did Cockroaches Get Into My House?

German cockroaches almost always get carried in: a grocery bag, a cardboard box from storage, a used appliance or piece of furniture, or through the shared walls of an apartment or condo. It does not mean your home is dirty. Oriental cockroaches are different and usually walk in from outside through gaps around pipes, doors and crawl space vents.

How Do You Get Rid of German Cockroaches?

With bait and a growth regulator placed in the cracks where they live, not with sprays. The bait gets eaten and shared, and the growth regulator keeps the young ones from maturing and breeding. Then a follow-up visit picks up the ones that hatched after the first treatment. German cockroach treatment that skips the follow-up is the most common reason an infestation comes back.

What Is Included in Your Cockroach Pest Control Services?

An inspection to find the species and where they are concentrated, bait and a growth regulator placed in the cracks and voids they live in, treatment of damp areas and entry points for oriental cockroaches, and a follow-up visit to check the activity and re-treat anything still hanging on. You also get a plain list of the gaps and moisture problems worth fixing so they do not come back.

Do Bug Bombs Work on Cockroaches?

Not really. The fog settles on open surfaces, and cockroaches spend their time inside walls, behind appliances and under cabinets where it never reaches. Foggers also tend to drive them deeper or into neighboring rooms and units. If you have already set one off, that is fine, just tell us so we know what they have been exposed to.

How Long Does It Take to Get Rid of Cockroaches?

You should see a big drop within the first couple of weeks of treatment. Finishing the job takes longer than that because egg cases laid before the first visit keep hatching, which is why we schedule a follow-up. A heavy infestation or a multi-unit building can take a few visits.

How Much Does Pest Control for Cockroaches Cost?

Cockroach pest control is priced by the job, and it depends on the species, how established the population is, and whether it is a single house or a building with shared walls, so we quote it after a quick look rather than over the phone. You get the number before we start, with no surprise add-ons.

I Rent an Apartment. Should I Call You or My Landlord?

Let your property manager know either way. German cockroaches move between units through shared walls and plumbing, so treating one apartment on its own often does not hold. We treat individual units and we also run building-wide programs for property managers, which is usually the version that ends it.

Is a Water Bug a Cockroach?

Usually, yes. Around here, water bug is the everyday name for the oriental cockroach, the large, dark, slow one that shows up near drains, in basements and in crawl spaces. It needs a different treatment from the small German cockroach in the kitchen, which is why we identify the species first.

Are Your Cockroach Treatments Safe for Kids and Pets?

Yes. We use products rated for occupied homes and place them in cracks, crevices and behind appliances rather than spraying them across living space, which keeps them out of reach of kids and pets. We will walk you through every product and where it goes before we treat.
