Ant Control in Redmond
Odorous house ants and carpenter ants in Redmond's newer neighborhoods
The bark mulch, drip irrigation and freshly graded soil that come with Redmond's planned developments give odorous house ants a perfect place to start colonies right against the foundation. When the beds dry out in summer or flood in fall, the workers trail inside through gaps at door thresholds, window weep holes and utility lines. Carpenter ants are the other concern, especially on lots that back onto the wooded greenbelts of Education Hill, North Redmond and Bear Creek, where stumps and old logs hold parent colonies.
We identify the species first. Odorous house ants get baited, not sprayed, because spraying splits the colony into more nests and makes the problem worse. Carpenter ants get the parent nest and the satellite nests treated, which often means finding a colony in a stump or tree at the edge of the yard. Keep mulch pulled back a few inches from the siding. Watch for ant trails after rain and large winged ants indoors in spring.
