Rodent Control in Shoreline
Roof rats in Shoreline's mature tree canopy
Roof rats climb. On Shoreline's older blocks, the fir and maple branches reach across rooflines and power lines connect one house to the next, so rats travel overhead and enter through gaps at the eaves, roof vents and where the old attic vents have rusted open. Norway rats work the ground level, burrowing along foundations and into crawl space vents with broken screens.
Rodent control in Shoreline has to cover the whole house, top to bottom. We seal every opening a quarter inch and up with hardware cloth, sheet metal, mortar or copper mesh, set tamper-resistant bait stations outside, put snap traps inside and return to check and clear them. Trim branches back from the roof where you can. Listen for scratching overhead at dusk and look for droppings in the attic insulation.
